Gianluca Gandolfo, l'intreccio delle forme
L'estrema libertà di espressione di cui godono gli scultori contemporanei, non vincolati a specifici soggetti dettati dalla committenza, ha permesso a Giovanni Tomaselli di inventarsi un proprio stile molto originale, con un comune denominatore che attraversa tutte le sue numerose opere: la linea curva e la spirale.
Le varie parti compositive vengono poi assemblate in modo da creare composizioni più o meno facilmente interpretabili. Possiamo infatti affermare che il grande pregio delle opere dell'artista consiste nell'essersi "inventato" una tecnica che in qualche misura rimanda a una forma "cubista" sui generis straordinariamente applicata alla scultura. Tomaselli riesce con grande abilità a creare un magico "mix" prendendo di ciascun aspetto di questa corrente artistica una particolare caratteristica e unendole poi sapientemente nelle sue opere. Utilizza per esempio gli aspetti di semplificazione delle forme tipiche del cubismo formativo o, per quanto riguarda il cubismo analitico, propone una visione prospettica, raffigurando il soggetto da diversi punti di vista, con forme che vengono scomposte e ricomposte. Non utilizza però l'indecifrabilità dei suoi soggetti che sarebbe tipica di questa corrente: non perde mai di vista l'esplicita comprensione di ciò che assembla, accostandosi al cubismo sintetico.
Questi aspetti salienti che caratterizzano tutta la sua produzione sono particolarmente evidenti in opere come: "Formula uno", "Dal cuore del chicco un amore di caffè", "Attraverso l'onda". Spesso Tomaselli introduce la figura umana nelle sue sculture, non solo attraverso una rappresentazione figurativa fedele alla realtà, ma attraverso l'astrazione e compenetrazione delle forme. Il suo particolarissimo stile rivela grandi capacità tecniche e la sensibilità interpretativa di andare oltre il dato oggettivo.

The extreme freedom of expression enjoyed by contemporary sculptors, not tied to specific subjects dictated by the client, has allowed Giovanni Tomaselli to invent his own original style, with a common denominator that runs through all his many works: curved lines and spirals. The various parts are then assembled in order to create compositions, more or less easy to interpret. Indeed, we can say that the great merit of the artist consists in having "invented" a technique that to some extent refers to a "cubist" unique form extraordinarily applied to sculpture. Tomaselli is able with great ability to create a magical "mix" taking each aspect of this artistic movement's particular feature, and joining them expertly in his works. For example, he uses the aspects of simplification of typical forms of cubism training or, in regard to the analytical cubism, it shows a perspective view, depicting the subject from different points of view, with shapes that are broken down and reassembled. But it does not use the indecipherability of his subjects which would be typical of this trend: he does not lose sight of the explicit understanding of what he assembles, approaching the synthetic cubism. These salient features that characterise all his work are particularly evident in works such as: "Formula One", "From the heart of the coffee bean love", "Through the wave." Tomaselli often introduces the human figure in his sculptures, not only through a faithful representation of reality, but also through abstract forms. His unique style reveals great technical ability and interpretative sensitivity that goes beyond the objective fact.
